Matija Gantar holds a university degree in economics.
He was born in 1990 in Ljubljana. After graduating from the Faculty of Economics in Ljubljana, he also studied abroad, where he completed a master's degree in financial engineering and risk management at Imperial College London, and pursued further management education at IESE Business School.
Even during his studies, he gained experience through an internship in the audit department of KPMG Slovenia and worked as an assistant asset manager at Generali Investments d.o.o.; after completing his studies, he went on to work as an analyst at the investment bank Joh. Berenberg, Gossler & Co in London.
Since 2017, he has been a member of the Boards of Directors of KD Group d.d. and KD d.d., and, until his appointment as Chief Executive Officer of KD Group, he served as Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors of KD Group d.d. From 2018 to 2024, he was Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Šumijev kvart d.o.o., and since 2024 he has been a member of the Supervisory Board of Deželna banka Slovenije. Matija Gantar was appointed Chief Executive Officer of KD Group effective 19 November 2025, for a four-year term of office.
